Probably not.
Hi! Here’s the Scoop on Me 😉
For much of my career, I was the managing editor of The Washington Diplomat, an independent monthly newspaper with a readership of 200,000 that served the flagship publication of the diplomatic community in the nation’s capital for more than 25 years.
Currently, I’m the managing editor of Devex, a media company that covers the global development community with a subscriber base of over 1 million. I manage newsroom of over 25 editors and reporters who report on institutions such as USAID, the World Bank/IMF, U.N. and WHO; humanitarian crises in areas such as food, health and conflict; and multilateral development banks, DFIs and private sector investment.
Previously I was a broadcast producer and web editor for WTOP (103.5 FM), where I was responsible for planning the on-air lineups, writing and editing stories for the website, booking guests, and coordinating with anchors, reporters and others in a fast-paced environment.
In addition, during the fun-filled days of the pandemic, I created and hosted a podcast called Global 360 in which I break down the big headlines of the day. I also recently began my own newsletter called Beltway Breakdown (https://annagawel.substack.com) that offered my take on the twists and turns on Capitol Hill and inside the White House.
I’ve had hundreds of articles published on world affairs, U.S. foreign policy, politics, security, business, travel, arts and culture. That includes dozens of profiles of ambassadors from nations such as Canada, Colombia, the European Union and Sweden, among others. Other topics I’ve written about range from the impact of budget cuts at the State Department to tourism in the Baltics to Caribbean efforts to fight climate change.
I’ve been tapped to speak as an expert for think tanks such as the Middle East Institute and World Affairs Council and on news/radio broadcasts such as SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel and PRI’s The World.
Prior to The Washington Diplomat, I was a morning news assistant at WMAL Radio and a production assistant at PBS for the political commentary TV program “To The Contrary.”
I hold a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park, and speak Polish and French.
